David H. Shinn, Ph.D., an editor of The 1903 Skinner Mission to Ethiopia & A Century of Ethiopian-American Relations,is an adjunct professor in the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University. He served for 37 years in the U.S. Foreign Service, including as assistant desk officer for Ethiopia from 1969-71 and as the American ambassador to Ethiopia from 1996-99. He is also the co-author of Historical Dictionary of Ethiopia (Scarecrow, 2004) and editorial board member of The International Journal of Ethiopian Studies.
