Author Guidelines
|
Guidelines for Articles:
1) Manuscripts should not normally exceed 10,000 words in length (including notes and bibliography section) and the Editors encourage shorter articles.
2) Research Notes and Commentaries should not exceed 2500 words.
3) All submitted work should be typed in double line spacing on one side of numbered A4 sized paper, Five Copies of the article should be submitted.
4) The title of the article, the name of all authors, if the manuscript is a collective effort, along with addresses, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses should appear on a detachable flysheet. Only the title of the article should appear on the first page of the manuscript.
5) Authors should provide an abstract of up to 100 words, typed on a separate sheet, giving a concise statement of the intention, results and conclusions of the paper. Authors should also include a profile of 50 words and 6 keywords of their work (e.g. keywords; Ethiopia, earnings, economic reform, state enterprise).
6) Authors should note the total word length of their article (including abstract, text, notes and bibliography on the cover sheet and also make a note of the date on which the paper was last updated).
7) Letters may be sent to the Editor by e-mail, fax or regular mail. Letters should include writer’s full name, electronic mail address and telephone number. Letters may be edited for length.
8) Authors are encouraged to supply relevant artwork (maps, charts, line drawings and photographs) with their essays. The author is responsible for obtaining permission to publish any copyrighted material. Tables and figures should appear on separate sheets with self-explanatory title. The position in the text of each table and figure should be clearly indicated in the manuscript.
9) IJES follows The Chicago Manual of Style in most matters of spelling, punctuation, capitalization, terms, numbers, quotations, foreign languages, abbreviations, and documentation. IJES uses the author-date documentation system, in which sources are cited in the text by author’s last name and the date of publication, as detailed in chapter 16 of The Chicago Manual of Style. If the submission does not conform to this style—that is, if all documentation mistakenly appears in the notes—the manuscript may be returned to the author for revision.
10) Authors should avoid the use of sexist and racist language.
11) Notes appearing in the text should be kept to a minimum. They should be consecutively numbered and placed at the appropriate point in the text. Acknowledgements should be noted by the use of an asterisk or superscript number following the title of the article. All materials relating to notes cited in the text should be typed in double-lined spacing and placed in a ‘Notes’ section as the end of the article.
12) Proofs will be sent to authors of accepted articles for correction of typesetting errors only. Expenses incurred by the introduction of new material, in all but exceptional cases, will be charged to the author.
13) The submission of an article, book review, or other communication with the intention that it is to be published in this journal shall be taken as prima facie evidence that the author willingly transfers the copyright to the journal and its parent company, which will however, freely grant the author the right to reprint his or her piece, if published, in the author’s own works. In the case of articles, upon acceptance the author will be sent a contract and an assignment of copyright.
